Betta Gillfriend is a small, independent app made by Bespok Labs in British Columbia, Canada. We collect as little as we can, we never sell your information, and there are no ads, ad trackers or analytics tools in the app.

What stays on your device

What we collect, and why

How long we keep it

Who else handles it

The app is hosted on Vercel (files and photos are stored with Vercel Blob). Payments go through Stripe. Restore and news emails are sent by Resend. Ask Rip's answers are written by an AI service through Vercel AI Gateway. Each only gets what it needs to do its job. Like most websites, our host keeps short technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) to keep the site running and safe. Some of these services are in the United States, so your information may be stored or handled there.

Kids

Betta Gillfriend is made for families. Kids can meet fish, train and play with My Tank without giving us any information. Sharing photos, signing up for email and buying the unlock are meant for a parent or guardian.

Your choices

Affiliate links

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

The Rip-tested picks in the Shop (and a few small pick boxes in the Guide) link to Amazon.ca. In the US, picks that Amazon.com also sells link to Amazon.com instead. To choose the store, the app asks our server which country you’re visiting from (only the country; nothing is saved on our side) and remembers the answer on your device. If you buy through one of those links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Once you're on Amazon, Amazon's own privacy notice applies. The app itself still has no ads or ad trackers. Links to other stores may also become affiliate links later. See our affiliate disclosure.

Your privacy rights

We follow Canada's privacy laws: PIPEDA (the federal law) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). In plain words: we only collect what we need, we tell you why, we keep it safe, and you can ask to see, fix or delete your information. If you're not happy with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
